AOWS Partners with Library of Congress, Receives TPS Award
The America on the World Stage project received a $20,000 Teaching with Primary Sources Award from the Library of Congress to support the work of the Transatlantic Teacher Scholars in the spring of 2012.
This inquiry-based professional development program will focus on M9 - Nations in Conflict in order to explore turning points that occurred in the midst of turmoil during the World War Period of 1911-1945. Using long distance learning technology, this cohort will work with esteemed historians to develop their own research topics, analyze and interrogate relevant primary sources from the Library of Congress and National Archives collection, and create hands-on classroom strategies for this content. These Teacher Scholars will complete the design of these teaching kits with a study tour of Europe to gather additional evidence and data for their work.
In fall 2012, we will host a one-day institute called Nations in Conflict: Teaching World Wars Using Primary Source Materials. Workshop sessions will be led by Transatlantic Teacher Scholars as well as university and project personnel. Each seminar will focus on a specific content and methodological approach, including instructional technology.
The Library of Congress joins the U.S. Embassy London and the National Archives (London) as funding partners of this project.
